Ground Report | New Delhi: BS Yediyurappa resigned; Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has finally resigned. After several days of speculation, Yediyurappa announced his resignation crying on 26 July. He said that he has gone through the ordeal. Yediyurappa did not need to find his political opponents somewhere outside, he was present inside the BJP.

Only his ministers and MLAs were raising their voices against Yediyurappa. Even in Yediyurappa's government, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa had written a five-page letter to Governor Vajubhai Vala complaining about the CM's 'dictatorial interference'.

Many BJP members have been fueling such complaints. There are allegations that Yeddyurappa's family has been interfering in the functioning of the Karnataka government.

Earlier, BS Yediyurappa said in an emotional way, remembering the old days, 'When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, he asked me to become a minister at the Center but I chose to stay in Karnataka.' Yediyurappa had indicated on Sunday that he would have to step down as the chief minister. He had said that this decision will be taken by Sunday or Monday.

Announcing the resignation, BS Yediyurappa said that in these two years I did not get a chance to do much work for the state. He said that due to the Corona crisis, many things have come to a standstill and there was no opportunity for much work.

Meanwhile, BJP Chief JP Nadda has discussed the situation with the state in charge Arun Singh. Observers may soon be appointed for the election of the new CM in the state, who will participate in the legislative party meeting in the state. During the meeting, a new CM can be announced as an alternative to BS Yediyurappa. The Karnataka High Court had allowed the eight-year-old corruption case against Yediyurappa to be revived. The High Court has directed a special court set up for corruption cases to restore the old case dropped against Yediyurappa by a sessions court in July 2016. This case of illegal land notification dates back to 2008-2012 when BJP was in power for the first time.

The opposition party Congress was the attacker regarding this matter and is accusing BJP of corruption. Congress was trying to give a message in the state that there are allegations of corruption against Yediyurappa, yet BJP is silent and PM Modi is silent.

Even though the BJP remained silent on the allegations of the opposition, the silence for a long time could have caused trouble. Especially when PM Modi's image at the center is that of a corruption-free leader and the BJP leadership has been using it in elections.
