BJP leader's nephew killed in Rajouri, seven family members injured

Ground Report | New Delhi: BJP leader's nephew killed; A grenade attack took place at the house of a BJP leader in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night, in which a 4-year-old child is reported to have died. The child was the nephew of BJP leader Jasbir Singh, while 7 people of his house were also injured. When Jasbir's entire family was on the terrace on Thursday night in Rajouri's Khandali area, the terrorists threw a grenade at his house.

Jasbir Singh as well as his brother Balbir Singh, parents and other family members were injured in the attack. An injured in Rajouri Medical College Hospital told media persons present on the spot, "The whole family was sitting together in the verandah when the attack took place."

According to locals, Jasbir Singh, his brother and father are retired from the army. Confirming the attack in Jammu, Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that the blast took place near Khandli bridge in which some people were injured.

Eight family members were injured in the blast and were taken to a hospital where Balbir Singh's son Vir Singh (4) succumbed to his injuries.

BJP leader's nephew killed

Meanwhile, immediately after the blast, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Vivek Gupta and SSP Rajouri Sheema Nabi Kasba reached the spot. There was no official word yet about the nature of the blast or casualties when this report was filed.

Police have admitted the injured to Rajouri Medical College Hospital with the help of local people. The family members of the BJP leader and his supporters also started shouting slogans inside the hospital for not getting treatment on time.

But, Deputy Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Vivek Gupta, who was present on the spot, brought the situation under control while explaining to the family members.

The hospital's medical superintendent, Dr. Mahjoor Hussain Bajar, told the BBC over the phone, "Eight members of Jasbir Singh's family were admitted to the hospital in this attack, out of which a three-year-old child, who was seriously injured, died during treatment. At the same time, a seven-month-old girl has been referred to the Medical College Hospital in Jammu late at night.

On August 5, 2019, after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the Center abolished the special status of the state, making Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh two separate Union Territories.

After the removal of Article 370, the Modi government had said that now extremism will end from Jammu and Kashmir. The president of the Grievance Cell of the BJP, Dr. Rafi, links the attacks to several major decisions taken by the BJP.

He says, "The way the BJP removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir or changed some laws, the people of Kashmir took them in a negative way, although the party has taken these steps for the better future of the people of Kashmir. There is a need to change the mindset of the people."

Attack on BJP leaders increased

Dr Rafi alleges that BJP faces in the Valley are not getting adequate security. He said, "There are about 100-150 people of BJP in Kashmir, who are the identity of BJP in Kashmir. Unfortunately, the security of these people is also not being arranged in a better way. This is not a big deal for the government. The issue was not there. After the attacks and killings on BJP people in Kashmir, we are living in a big terror."

Some questions related to the security of BJP leaders were also sent through email to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, which has not been answered yet.

Hundreds of political leaders and activists have been killed since the beginning of the armed movement in Kashmir in the 1990s. Most of the political workers have been killed by the National Conference.
