BJP has risen as the second-largest party in GHMC elections 2020

Bharatiya Janta Party workers broke into celebrations following the party's wave in GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) elections. In the GHMC elections, the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Samiti has sustained its leadership and seized 55 seats. Nevertheless, many experts are saying that BJP is the real winner of the polls because it rose as the opponent of the TRS. BJP has won 48 seats in the poll while Owaisi's, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen got 44 and Congress only two seats.

Gains for BJP has come in areas like L.B. Nagar, where there was a lot of flooding, and people were unhappy with how flood relief distribution unfairly took place. The BJP had only secured four seats, and the TRS bagged 99 seats in the preceding elections. With the rise in numbers, BJP as surfaced as the second-largest party in the polls. The place which was owned by AIMIM earlier. BJP has not made inroads into AIMIM territory it has also eaten into the vote percentage of both TRS and Congress.

JP Nadda and Amit Shah showed gratitude to the voters who displayed faith in PM Modi's politics of development. In shocking news, BJP has also managed to bag seats in the old city, which is the AIMIM stronghold. In his reaction, Owaisi not only dismissed the 'BJP storm' but also stated they democratically contested BJP. Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao confessed that he was disappointed by the party's doing. 

With BJP expanding its footprint in the southern part of India, it has demonstrated that polarization politics operate there too with its massive win in the GHMC election. The BJP led an effervescent campaign to win GHMC polls to increase its chances in the 2023 Telangana assembly polls. Several top leaders, including Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath and Smriti Irani had campaigned for the party. Throughout the campaign, the BJP highlighted the TRS collaboration with the AIMIM, which according to multiple played out in BJP's support.
