Wildlife SOS is saddened to announce the passing of Suzy, a beloved elephant who spent her final years at the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura. Suzy, aged 74, was the oldest elephant at the sanctuary, having been rescued from captivity in 2015 after over five decades in a circus.
Blind and elderly, Suzy thrived under Wildlife SOS care, bonding with other elephants and caregivers. She shared a close connection with Asha and Lakhi, spending hours roaming the sanctuary and splashing in the pool.
Suzy’s health had steadily declined due to old age, and she recently suffered multi-organ failure. Her caregivers ensured her comfort until the end, providing her with a special diet, lovingly referred to as the "Suzy Smoothie," tailored to her needs as she lost her molars.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder of Wildlife SOS, shared, “Suzy was more than just an elephant; she was family. Her resilience and gentle spirit inspired everyone who knew her.”
Geeta Seshamani, Co-founder of the organization, highlighted the deep bond between Suzy and her caregiver Baburam, which was captured in a touching documentary titled My Sweet Paro.
Suzy’s legacy continues to inspire Wildlife SOS to rescue and rehabilitate elephants in need, ensuring they find the love and care she experienced in her final years.
