Ground Report | New Delhi: Biggest infiltration attempt in J&K The Indian Army on Monday said that the army is continuously engaged in a major operation in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. As per the NDTV, this is the biggest infiltration attempt by terrorists from across the Line of Control in recent years.

Reports quoted Army officials as saying that the infiltration attempt was detected late Saturday evening. This infiltration attempt has happened when September 18 itself was the anniversary of the Uri attack. In 2016, 19 soldiers were martyred in those two suicide attacks. After this attack, India had carried out surgical strikes across the border and destroyed many terrorist hideouts.

Internet services and mobile phones have been suspended in North Kashmir's Uri sector since Monday morning. The infiltration attempt was detected late Saturday on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Uri attack, in which 19 soldiers were killed after two suicide bombers attacked an army installation on September 18, 2016, officials said.

Quoting sources in Delhi, a group of around six infiltrators managed to sneak in from Pakistan. He said a soldier was injured in the firing during the infiltration attempt. The army said that operations were on to trace the intruders and the exact situation on the ground was still unclear.

This is the first time that phone services and the internet have been snapped in the wake of a cross-border infiltration attempt. The army said this is the second infiltration attempt this year after the ceasefire agreement between the armies of India and Pakistan in February.

No report of ceasefire violations since Feb

The army has said that there has been no report of ceasefire violations since the agreement and there was no report of any provocation from Pakistan. The General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey said, "Frankly, there has been no provocation from across the border… We are fully prepared for ceasefire violation".

He also said that this year there have been only two successful infiltration attempts by terrorists, one of which took place in the Uri sector on Sunday.

Asked if the Taliban has had an impact in Kashmir, Pandey said, "Why are you worried? You are safe and will be safe.' He said that if anyone takes up arms, he will have to face the consequences. Along with this, he also said, 'I am not looking at questions on Taliban or foreign terrorists or local terrorists.

"It has nothing to do with its quality and quantity for us. If a person takes up a weapon, it will be neutralized by any means – by beating or capturing. And if he comes and surrenders, we will accept that surrender" he said.
