New Delhi: With 716 new Covid cases reported in the daily state health bulletin issued on Friday, Delhi recorded the highest number of single day Coronavirus infection cases during this year. The city also recorded 4 deaths during the last 24 hours taking the overall official death toll due to virus infection in the city to 10,953. The positivity rate of around 0.9% is currently being recorded in the city but during the last one week, the daily covid count has been steadily rising at a consistent rate. Experts have opined that with the same trajectory, the city could be facing over 1000 daily cases in the next couple of weeks.
The city currently has 3165 active cases out of which 51% are currently treating themselves under home isolation. The city government has recently announced that it is going to significantly increase the count of the vaccine jabs from current 30,000-40,000 per day to 1.25 lakh per day along with doubling the vaccination centres from 500 to 1000 in the next few days. The timings for administering the vaccine from 9 AM to 5 PM are also being increased to 9 AM to 9 PM.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to the central government to decentralize the vaccination process while assuring that the entire population of the state can be inoculated in 3 months if the process is freed up. Earlier, the Maharashtra government state advisor had taken a critical stand on “center controlled” vaccination drive while asking “why the Centre was sitting on vaccines like a snake on a pot of gold?”
