The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to win the assembly election in Maharashtra in alliance with the Shiv Sena. Leading on 160 seats the alliance has managed to keep the Congress NCP combine at bay which is struggling with 99 seats.
In Haryana, however, the power dynamics have taken a rapid turn with the BJP struggling to reach the majority mark. In the 90-member house, the saffron party is leading on 40 seats as Congress gives it a run for its money on 31 seats.
The debutant Jannayak Janta Party has emerged as a kingmaker, in the likely hung assembly, winning 10 seats in its first attempt under the leadership of Dushyant Chautala. Counting of votes was still in progress when the report was filed.
Who will be next Maharashtra CM?
As the BJP-Shiv Sena managed to sail through the assembly elections, the Shiv Sena, which has improved its position has asserted that the post of Chief Minister will be decided on the common formula agreed upon with the BJP.
Addressing a press conference, Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said, “It is time to remind the BJP about the formula arrived at when BJP chief Amit Shah visited my home….we had decided on fifty-fifty formula for the alliance.”
Thackeray added that he will discuss the results with his party and arrive at the power-sharing formula in a peaceful and transparent manner before the alliance stakes claim to form the next government.
Aditya Thackeray, who contested his first assembly election from Worli seat won during the day. “I am very happy that the people have blessed me with so much margin and so many votes,” Thackeray said after the results were announced.
PM Modi credit workers for victory
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter before heading to the BJP HQ to acknowledge the victory. Talking about Maharashtra, he said, “People of Maharashtra have blessed the NDA with immense affection. We are humbled to have got the people’s support yet again.
Our work towards Maharashtra’s progress continues! I salute each and every Karyakarta of the BJP, Shiv Sena and our entire NDA family for their hardwork.” Meanwhile, he stressed that in Haryana ” We will continue to work with the same zeal and dedication for the state’s progress.”
