Ashraf Ghani to flee with $169 million

Ground Report | New Delhi: Ashraf Ghani to flee with $169 million; Republicans from the US Congressional Oversight Committee and the National Security Committee have asked the US Secretary of State and the Attorney General to confirm the State Department's alleged departure of Ashraf Ghani with more than $100 million.

Republican members of the Congressional Oversight Committee and the National Security Committee said in a letter to the US Secretary of State and the Attorney General.

James Coomer, a member of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Glenn Grothman, a member of the National Security Subcommittee, have asked the State Department and the attorney general to provide a briefing before August 31.

The letter said that the State Department and the Department of Justice should also take a stand on the news that the money held by Ashraf Ghani belonged to American taxpayers or international aid. And if not, then where did all this money come from for Ashraf Ghani? '

It may be recalled that after leaving the country, Ashraf Ghani had already denied the allegation in a speech that he had taken money from the country.

He said that in the situation in which he left the country, he did not even get a chance to change his shoes. Ashraf Ghani had said: "I was evicted so quickly that my personal laptop, diary and books fell into the hands of other people."

The letter also asked the State Department and the Department of Justice to state that if Ashraf Ghani's money was part of US aid for Afghanistan's reconstruction, the US government should work with partners. What is she doing to recover this money and bring Ashraf Ghani to justice?

According to the letter, the United States has provided $145 billion to Afghanistan for reconstruction over 20 years, in addition to the $837 billion spent on the war. Of that amount, $17 billion was given to the Afghan government in the form of budget aid, headed by Ashraf Ghani since 2014.

The two Republicans also mentioned in their letter that Ashraf Ghani allegedly took about $1.7 million from the country and had enough money to run out of helicopters. And they had to leave some money on the tarmac.

The letter also said that Ashraf Ghani's "cowardly act" accelerated the Taliban's takeover of the country, overthrew the Afghan government, and left American citizens and allies in a state of disarray. '
