Anmol Pritam, Journalist who was forced to chant Jai Sri Ram

Ground Report | New Delhi: Anmol Pritam, Journalist; A journalist was allegedly intimidated and thrashed for raising slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Sunday in a march that sparked hatred against Muslims.

Journalist Anmol Pritam, associated with the National Dastak website, has alleged that after this he was "intimidated and tried to call Jai Shri Ram" and when he refused to do so, he was also "pushed".

After its video was put on social media, it went viral and people are praising the journalist's reaction in this matter. Most of the praisers are those who are protesting against spreading hatred against Muslims.

In the video of the journalist that has gone viral, the crowd is seen forcibly forcing him to raise slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram'. Anmol Pritam has also posted a video on Twitter, in which he is seen arguing with the crowd. People from all around seem to be pressurizing them to chant 'Jai Shri Ram' and meanwhile Anmol says- 'I will speak my mind, but don't force it… don't call it forcefully'.

Forced to chant Jai Sri Ram

He said he chanted "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" but refused to say "Jai Shri Ram" because, "in my personal opinion, I think it is a political phrase. If I feel like saying it, I will."

The crowd surrounds them and the hands keep moving towards them from all sides and the voices of the crowd keep coming. Then Anmol Pritam again says- 'You people will say so many people around me that if you say Jai Shri Ram, then I will not speak'.

In the meantime, there is a situation like a scuffle in the crowd, someone hits them on the back and someone asks them to leave. A young man emerges from the crowd and, holding the reporter's mic, starts saying - 'I will request the media channel that this man is spreading communalism, he should be thrown out. The reporter and the cameraman are seen walking away from the crowd and Anmol says – now if I don't listen to them, am I wrong?'

Case registered

Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi District) Deepak Yadav said: "A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law and investigation is on." When asked why no one was arrested till Monday evening, Yadav said: “We are watching the video and identifying them. It's a process." Former Delhi BJP spokesperson Upadhyay, who organized the Jantar Mantar program from 11 am on Sunday, has lodged a complaint with the police.

In a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, Upadhyay said: "A video is going viral on social media in which a man is giving a frenzied speech. Some people are sharing this video on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp by taking my name to defame me, however I neither know nor have met any of the people seen in the video, nor invited them. Has been done. Check the veracity of this video as well as the time and place of making it. If this video is true then take strict action against those involved in it and if it is untrue then take strict action against those who shared it on social media.
