Ground Report | New Delhi: Amazon Online Racket; Premier online shopping and e-commerce platform Amazon is under the scanner of the Madhya Pradesh Police following the arrest of two people in the Bhind district of the central Indian state. Police said the cannabis consignment was brought from Visakhapatnam to Madhya Pradesh through online shopping platform Amazon. Respondents told in preliminary interrogation that about 1 tonne of ganja was smuggled through Amazon.

Two persons, identified as Suraj alias Kallu Pawaiya (native of Morar in Gwalior) and Pintu alias Bijendra Singh Tomar (who runs a roadside dhaba in Bhind district), were arrested with 20 kg of ganja. The consignment of ganja was procured from Visakhapatnam using the Amazon platform.

Bhind district police officer Manoj Kumar Singh told The Indian Express that after interrogating the apprehended persons, it was learned that a banned drug had been ordered from an online shopping platform for the last four months. Investigations have revealed that in the last four months, they have seized about one tonne of cannabis using a single platform. The accused have committed smuggling of Rs one crore and ten lakh during the last four months.

Further investigation revealed that the narcotics racket, which was registered by Suraj Pawaiya, the kingpin of the racket as a seller of herbal products and Curry Leaves, was registered with the top online shopping portal using the details of a Gujarat based textile company and later also got the power to generate barcodes. same portal. “Kallu ran his company in a fake name with PAN and GST numbers etc. The e-commerce firm got 66.66 percent profit from illegal business. We are collecting evidence to prosecute the e-commerce company under section 29 (part of criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," the SP said.

“The inquiries of the arrested pair also revealed that over 66% of the monetary transactions went to the online shopping major. We are going to send notice to Amazon soon, as the online shopping portal has failed in many cases to stop this nefarious online smuggling of drugs. If further investigation reveals that the online shopping platform is also at fault and part of the crime, he will be booked under 29 NDPS Act,” said Bhind district police chief.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) should take action against Amazon, saying the website acted as a seller, collected money, posted on their website, and commissioned earned.
