Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami, the descent of Ganga on Earth, is on 1 June. The spiritual and religious significance of Ganga Dussehra is mentioned in religious texts. On this day, bathing and donating Ganga has special significance. There is also a talk in the scriptures about the liberation of ten kinds of sins from bathing the Ganges. It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva established the Shivling in Rameswaram.

According to the calendar, the festival of Ganga Dussehra is celebrated every year on the tenth day of Jyestha Shukla Paksha. Ganga Dussehra Muhurta: Dashami Tithi will start from 05:36 PM on the evening of 31 May and will end on 01 June at 02:57 PM. The Hasta Nakshatra will start from 03:01 AM on 01 June and will end at 01:03 AM on 2 June.

Ganga Dussehra 2020 Tithi and Timings

  • Dashami Tithi begins at 5:36 PM on May 31 and ends at 2:57 PM on June 1.
  • Hasta Nakshatra (divine Nakshatra) begins at 3:01 AM on June 1 and ends at 1:03 AM on June 2.
  • Vyatipata Yoga (inauspicious period) begins at 1:18 PM on June 1 and ends at 9:53 AM on June 2.
  • Vyatipit Yoga will begin on June 1 at 01:18 pm and end at 09:53 am on June 2.
  • The auspicious time of bathing, meditation and donation on Ganga Dussehra is 2 to 37 minutes in the afternoon.
