Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ranjan Gogoi has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha. According to a notification issued by the central government late Monday evening, President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha.

The vacancy caused by the President, a nominated member in exercise of the powers conferred by subdivision (a) of clause (1) read with clause (3) of Article 80 of the Constitution of India.” To fill the post, nominate Ranjan Gogoi in the Rajya Sabha.

Who is Ranjan Gogoi?

On 3 October 2018, Gogoi, who became the 46th Chief Justice of India, had a term of about 13 months. He gave a historic verdict on the Ram temple on 9 November last year. Gogoi retired on 17 November.  He is the son of Assam Chief Minister Keshab Chandra Gogoi. He started advocacy in 1978. Became the permanent judge of the Guwahati High Court in 2001. Became Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2011 and appointed Supreme Court Judge on 23 April 2012. His image is of a very strict and honest judge.
