Ground Report, Srinagar | Shah Faesal, a former IAS officer and head of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement, has also been imposed under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Faesal is under house arrest since August 2019.
JKPM leader Faesal was detained at Delhi Airport in August last year. He was trying to move out of India. He was sent to Srinagar after the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Faesal has joined the list of other leaders booked under PSA in Jammu and Kashmir. Former Chief Minister and MP Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Sartaj Madni, Hilal Lone, Ali Mohammad Sagar and Naeem Akhtar have also been booked under the PSA.
A political organization Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement was formed after Shah Faizal, a former bureaucrat from Jammu and Kashmir, resigned from the Indian Administrative Service IAS.
After abolishing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Faesal was detained for one of his tweets. He tweeted, 'Kashmir needs a long, sustained and non-violent political movement to regain political rights.'
On August 5 last year, Article 370 was abolished from Jammu and Kashmir. After this, many veteran leaders of the valley were put under house arrest. Shah Faesal wrote in a Facebook post criticizing the central government, 'Due to the police action in the valley, about 80 lakh people have been forced to remain like prisoners.
There was no such situation in the state before. Few vehicles are visible from Zero Bridge to the airport. All places are completely closed. No one is being allowed to move except patients.
A person booked under the PSA can be detained without a trial for up to three months that can be extended.
