In February, the AAP chief had visited Surat after his party emerged as strong opposition to the BJP in the municipal elections. The party won 27 out of 120 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections. The party is hoping to provide an alternative to the state, which has been dominated by the BJP for decades.
The move comes at a time when the Congress party has become insignificant in the face of the Modi-Shah-led BJP and has faced several defeats and losses in the local body elections. Voting in the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly is to be held in December 2022.
