Ground Report | New Delhi: 750 died during Farmers Protest; On Sunday, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait hit out at the central government and said there was no condolence from the Indian government on the death of farmers in the agrarian agitation.

Speaking to ANI, Mr. Tikait said, "Around 750 farmers were killed in the agricultural agitation… There was no mourning from the Government of India. The farmers of the country think that perhaps PM Modi is not a 'farmer' PM. ..and consider them (farmers) apart from the country."

criticized Modi government

Earlier, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has once again criticized the Modi government at the Center for the performance of farmers.

Speaking at the Global Jat Summit organized by Teja Foundation in Jaipur on Sunday, Malik said that 'this country had never seen such a large-scale movement where 600 people were martyred. If even an animal dies, the condolence message of the leaders of Delhi goes.

“Yesterday there was a fire in Maharashtra and there was a proposal from Delhi. But 600 of our people died and no one spoke on them. Even our class (agriculture community) did not stand up to pass the resolution in Parliament. This is not a good situation."

Malik also said that whenever he speaks on farmers' issues, he has doubts for several weeks that calls may come from Delhi.

He said his 'well-wishers' are waiting when he is told about his removal and asked on social media why he didn't resign if he had objections.

The Meghalaya governor said, "I say did your father make it. I was made by 2-3 big people in Delhi, I am speaking against their wishes, I am speaking only knowing that they will have problems. Leave it the way he says we have a problem, I will not spend a single minute."

Farmers have been protesting at various sites since November 26 last year against three enacted agricultural laws: the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
