Due to this situation, there has been a significant change in their trend of moving to other cities or states and doing jobs This has been revealed in a joint survey on migrant labourers by Jan Sahas, EdelGive Foundation, and Global Development Incubator.

70% migrant labourers remained in home

A total of 2,342 workers from five states were included in this joint survey conducted by Jan Sahas, EdelGive Foundation, and Global Development Incubator. Of these, 70 percent said that after returning home in the first lockdown, they did not leave their homes again for fear of contracting the corona infection and worked in their hometowns. Similarly, 55 percent have said that there has been a reduction in migration.

Of the workers surveyed, 54 percent said that there had been a shortage of jobs in major cities since the first lockdown. He had talked to the previous job places but didn't get the job. Similarly, 45 percent of the workers had given up the idea of ​​working in another city due to the fear of sudden lockdown. Similarly, 55 percent of those returning to the job have said that they leave for less time.

70 percent of the workers said that it has become difficult to find a permanent job in the last one year. Due to this, there has been a big drop in their monthly income. Similarly, 40 percent of the workers did not report any impact on the earnings and the wage rate remained the same as last year. Similarly, 36 percent of the workers said that after the first lockdown, there has been a big drop in the rates of wages. This has done them a great loss.

Fear among the migrants of not getting jobs

In the survey, 60 percent of the workers said that women are now going to other states or cities in small numbers for work as compared to before the corona epidemic. Similarly, the survey also revealed that there is a great fear among the migrants of not getting jobs in old places and they are looking for employment in the home town itself. Similarly, men have to work harder to maintain family relief.

The survey also revealed that the Delhi and Chhattisgarh governments have provided great relief to migrant labourers. The Delhi government has registered more than 1.05 lakh workers under the Building and Construction Workers Act (BOCW). Similarly, the Chhattisgarh government has provided free or subsidized ration to 97.8 percent of the respondents under the Public Distribution System (PDS) during the lockdown period. This has brought them great relief.
