57 youths travelled to PaK

Ground Report | SRINAGAR: 57 youths travelled to PaK; J&K’s Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Tuesday said 57 youth went to the other side of Kashmir on valid visas and documents but joined militancy of which 17 youth returned along with weapons and got killed in encounters. He also said that 13 are still active on this side of Kashmir and the rest are still in Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference at Rajouri, DGP Dilbagh Singh said that in 2017 and 2018, 57 youth crossed over to the other side of the LoC on valid documents however, instead of studying they joined militant ranks and 17 of them have been already killed.

The visa procedure and security procedure has been made very strict as youth visit Pakistan on the pretext of studies and tourism but they turn militants.

He said that so far three to four groups including one in Bandipora and around three in the Rajouri-Poonch sector infiltrated into this side. “Four militants who were killed in Bandipora had crossed over to this side through Machil and Gurez sectors. He said that two militants were killed in Rajouri and there are apprehensions that two more are there.

He said that in 2017 and 2018, 57 youth crossed over to the other side of the LoC on valid documents and visa. “They joined militant groups there. Among them, 17 infiltrated and were killed in various encounters. 13 are still active in Kashmir while 17 continue to remain on the other side, he said.

Singh said that Pakistan had established a Gazwat force to disturb the communal harmony in J&K and added that with the joint efforts of JKP and other forces the group has been completely destroyed.

250 to 300 militants active

DGP said that launching pads across the border with the support of ISI and associated agencies are still active and around 250 to 300 militants are getting trained in the camps and attempts are being made to push them to this side.

He added that Police and security forces have strengthened the anti-infiltration grid both at the LoC and hinterland to foil all attempts. He said that in recent times “Four militants who were killed in Bandipora had crossed over to this side through Machil and Gurez sectors while in Rajouri two militants were killed recently and there is information regarding the presence of two more terrorists. The efforts are on to track them down, he added.

He said that Pakistan is using drones for militant activities but J&K Police and other security forces have strengthened the counter security grid to meet this challenge effectively. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police and NIA during the last two days have raided 56 locations in the valley for their support of militant activities in J&K adding that militant funding and its support system is being thoroughly investigated.

He said that Pakistan is continuously making attempts to lure misguided youth towards militancy and reactivate some ex-militants to revive its militant structure at various places in J&K and added that these evil attempts will be foiled.
