Ground Report | New Delhi: Women naked in Pakistan; In Faisalabad, Pakistani police arrested five people on suspicion of beating, stripping, and recording four women. After a video of four women abusing, thrashing, and undressing by multiple men went online, it sparked outrage around the world.

Acting on the incident, the Faisalabad Police has arrested five people for assaulting, stripping, and filming four women in Pakistan's Punjab province. The incident is from Bawa Chak Market in Faisalabad, Pakistan. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, following which the police took action.

Four of the five accused have been identified as Saddam (Owner of Osman Electric Store) and store employees Zaheer Anwar and Fakir Hussain (Owner of a sanitary products shop). The names of ten other unidentified suspects have also been registered in the FIR.

According to the complaint lodged with the Millat Town police station, the complainant is a waste picker. She had gone to Bawa Chak Market with three other women to collect garbage at around 10.30 am on December 6. Feeling thirsty, he entered the Osman Electric store. When she asked for a bottle of water, Saddam started yelling at her and accused her of breaking into the shop to steal it. On his shouting, other accused came to the shop.

According to the complaint, during the argument he started beating the four women. The women took off their clothes and took them to the market. In his statement, the complainant said, "They kept on thrashing us for about an hour and making videos of us in a nude state." On getting information about the case, some family members of the victims reached the market and with the help of passers-by stopped the accused, who requested the suspects to let the women go. The victim has demanded strict action against the accused. In a tweet on December 7, Faisalabad police said, 'We police arrested two accused last night. Further action has been taken and five accused have been arrested. All other aspects of the incident are also being investigated. IG Punjab is adopting a zero-tolerance policy on incidents of violence and harassment against women and children.

Shopkeepers allege that women themselves tore clothes

Geo TV quoted Superintendent of Police (SP) Naeem Aziz as saying that the shopkeepers informed the police that the women had stolen goods from the shop. When caught, he tore his own clothes and threatened the shopkeeper.

SP Aziz said some women can be seen tearing clothes in the CCTV footage. A Twitter user posted CCTV footage of the shop in which women can be seen stealing items in the shop. A woman was seen forcefully entering the back of the shop.
