33 in list of J&K leaders barred from flying abroad

Almost 33 leaders of Jammu and Kashmir have been banned from going abroad. Due to this, former National Conference MLA Altaf Ahmad Wani was stopped from boarding a flight to Dubai at Delhi airport on Thursday evening. Officials said that they were not allowed to travel abroad.

The names of former Chief Ministers Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are not included in this list of different party leaders. The list at that time contained names of political leaders from National Conference, PDP, JK People's Conference including Ali Mohammed Sagar, Abdul Rahim Rather, Nayeem Akhtar, Sajjad Lone his brother Bilal Lone, Wani, Basharat Bukhari among others.

Wani told, I reached the airport in the afternoon. I was taken to a different room as soon as I reached the immigration counter. It felt like there was a problem with the passport, but I was kept there for about three hours. No explanation was given for this. He was let go after the intervention of Jammu and Kashmir Police officials.

Wani said, After this I asked the family to go on a journey and asked Immigration to clarify this issue. Nearly three hours later, while returning the passport to Wani, he was told that he was prohibited from traveling abroad until March 2021.

On August 5 last year, the Jammu and Kashmir administration sent a list of about 37 people who were not allowed to go abroad. After three months, some amendments were made to this list and the ban on foreign travel of 33 people was upheld.

Altaf was one of the leaders of the detained political parties since Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August 2019, which was later released.
