Ground Report | New Delhi: Explosion onboard INS Ranvir; At least three sailors were killed and several more were injured in an explosion that occurred aboard the Indian Navy destroyer INS Ranvir at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard on Tuesday night.

Responding immediately, the ship's crew brought the situation under control. There was no major material damage, according to the statement. INS Ranvir was on operational deployment across the coast from Naval Command East and was due to return to home port shortly.

"Unfortunate incident took place today at Naval Dockyard Mumbai where three sailors were killed in a blast inside a compartment of INS Ranvir," the statement said. The ship's crew took quick action and brought the situation under control. There is no news of any major damage."

Giving details, the Indian Navy officials said that the INS Ranvir was on cross coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command and was due to return to base port shortly. “A Board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause,” Indian Navy said.

"In an unfortunate incident today at Naval Dockyard Mumbai, three naval personnel succumbed to injuries caused by an explosion in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir," the Indian Navy's statement noted.

"INS Ranvir was on cross coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command and was due to return to base port shortly. A Board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause", noted the statement. The Defense Ministry has said in a statement that a board has been constituted to investigate the causes of this incident.
