Large stake in the Liberal Party

Defense Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan has won from the Vancouver South seat. According to CTV News, he has been re-elected from this seat with close to 49 percent votes, which is a bigger victory than the last time. The gentleman grew up here and still calls it his home.

Anita Anand of the Liberal Party won the election from Oakville with 46 percent of the vote, a major achievement for her as Vaccine Minister. Last time she reached Parliament for the first time but she got important responsibility during the pandemic.

Other leaders of Indian origin who won the election include Kamal Kheda, Ruby Sahota, Sonia Sidhu, Maninder Sidhu and Sukh Dhaliwal from the Liberal Party. George Chahal, Arif Virani, Randeep Sarai, Anju Dhillon, Chandra Arya and first-timer Iqwinder Gahir have also won elections from the Liberal Party.

Tim Uppal and Jasras Singh from the Conservative Party managed to save their seats. About 1.6 million people of Indian origin live in Canada, which is about three percent of the country's population.
